Shelly Beach / Sydney / New South Wales / Australia Wobbegong Shark There are 12 species of that carpet shark. They live in shallow tropical waters and its name comes from Australian Aboriginal Language and means "shaggy beard". Watching this video you will see why this name is very accurate. Their body is covered with symmetrical pattern which resembles carpet. Being ambush predators camouflage is very important, they hide in rocks and grass waiting for smaller fish to pass by. However this shark is not dangerous for humans it is better not bother it or touch as they can bite. Teeth are sharp and go thru wet suit. After the bite they tend to stick around being difficult to remove. So it is better to watch from far. Shelly Beach - how to get there Once in Sydney take a ferry from Circ...

Cruising about 30km off Sydney Australia a pod of Dolphins lead the crew aboard the sailing catamaran “Barefoot" to an awesome rarely seen feeding event. Captain and underwater cinematographer Dean Cropp was joined by marine scientist Vanessa Pirotta, Photographer Franziska Link and crewman Guy Saunders Originally we were on a mission to identify whales for Vanessa’s research, but the crew got well and truly sidetracked. Firstly 2 dolphins started riding the Barefoot’s bow wave, then there were 5, then 20 and then up to 30 dolphins cruising with us. It was spectacular. They started to lead us further to the east and out to sea and thats when we saw the action on the surface. Thousands of Yellowtail baitfish were being herded into a tight ball where the dolphins, seals and even birds began...
This was a real cool part of the Sydney Aquarium. There is mostly sharks in this area. The rays, I learned, are related to the sharks a bit. They share some of the same features. It was kinda nice seeing the sharks and other fishies getting along, lol. I wonder what they think...

Shark attack compilation: Stuart Beach in Martin County, Florida, ranks high on “most dangerous” lists thanks to well-known shark attacks. Stuart Beach last made headlines six years ago when 38-year-old kite surfer Stephen Howard Schafer suffered multiple bite wounds and died. Schafer was about 500 yards offshore when he was attacked. He had gone kite surfing later in the day. Lifeguard Daniel Lund was looking through his binoculars when he noticed something strange. Lund saw Schafer lying on his kite board’s large sail. The lifeguard’s training took over … he sprang into action. Paddling out to the kitesurfer, Lund noticed blood in the water. Schafer screamed he had been attacked by a shark. Lund pulled Schafer onto his board and paddled back as several of the predators circled. Despi...

fishing in Sydney Harbour
In 1942, the most bloody battle between the Japanese and the Allied Forces took place on the idyllic Solomon Islands north-east of Australia. 26,000 lives were lost. Apart from the islands, the sea bed is also covered with the remnants of that war; rusty ship and plane wrecks, weapons, cannons, destroyed pontoons... On expeditions which led to the Solomons from northern Australia via the Great Barrier Reef, Ben Cropp has explored many such wrecks in detail. Although all wooden sections have long since rotted away, the segments of ships and weaponry, covered by algae and shells, still act as a cautionary reminder of that war. email@example.com

Matthew Johnson-Roberson Assistant Professor, University of Michigan February 05, 2016 Abstract Robust, scalable Simultaneous Localization and Mapping (SLAM) algorithms support the successful deployment of robots in many real-world applications. Robotic platforms now deliver vast amounts of sensor data from large unstructured environments. In attempting to process and interpret this data, the underwater domain poses many unique challenges. This talk will present recent advances in perception techniques for the generation of 3D reconstructions over tens of thousands of square meters. Topics will include the generation of self-consistent poses, long-term localization, consistency of lighting through an attenuating medium, the visualization of gigapixel textured models using a novel state-o...
The local sea life in Sydney Harbour is thriving. Ben Cropp explores world famous Sydney Harbour, examining the local sea life, shipwrecks and surrounding area. We discover plenty of unusual things underneath the magnificent skyline as Ben presents a fascinating history and comes face to face with some unexpected wildlife. Diving into the waters of the harbour, Ben captures stunning footage of a range of animals including jellyfish, seahorses and turtles. He also films the dangerous creatures that lurk in the deep such as Bull Rays and Grey Nurse sharks, recounting the tragic story of the last fatal shark attack in Sydney Harbour in 1963. While underwater Ben takes the opportunity to examine a range of shipwrecks, including a Japanese sub from WWII. As evening descends the infrared camera...
